Contigo Ranch Engagement Session with Kerstie & Dakota

Meet Kerstie & Dakota! This cute Houston couple is planning a Texas Destination wedding at Contigo Ranch in Fredericksburg for June 2019. Which is smart, I’ve endured plenty of Houston summers enough to know that groomsmen won’t last long in a suit in the Houston summer heat AND humidity. Meanwhile in Fredericksburg it’s 10 degrees cooler on the same day and less humid we’re outside partyin – still a lil sweaty – but not dropping like its Houston-hot. Back to these cuties – they brought their beautiful white lab named Hostin, who was adorable and pretty well behaved for a woofer that had been on a long road trip and ready to exert major wiggles. Couples often ask if bringing a pet is ok for their engagement session, and I say yes! While it is more work, since I LOVE to high heaven my own furbaby Pacer the Aussie, I completely relate to wanting beloved pets in pics. So what I recommended for Kerstie & Dakota was to have a friend or family member come to the session to be the pet handler so that the couple is free to focus on themselves and the photos instead of multitasking how the pet is behaving, so Kerstie’s sister came along! She helped manage Hostin on a leash behind the scenese, keeping a tight hold on him when some beautiful deer passed through the property, and held his attention toward the camera behind me so he’d direct his attention to us. And it worked great! (Well except for that part when his curiousity drove his wet nose all over my favorite lens to smell my camera that was resting on my hip, ewww so glad I have camera clean up gear always on hand! Reminds me of a cute pinetrest saying – ‘that’s not a dirty window that’s my dog’s nose art.’)
